"Due to the significant increase in the number of Spanish certified translation, organizations throughout the world are becoming more keen on developing a certification process that would allow for a Spanish certified translator standard for potential translators.  The reasons for this are many, and probably rather obvious, but in order to be fair, let's revisit them:

Creating a certified translator process:
-    Allows an independent body to determine what standards are important to Spanish certified translation, and ongoing continuing education requirements will insure that new trends are incorporated into the toolset for all certified translators; and
-    Insures that certified translator applicants are qualified for jobs they are applying for, reducing the workload for job screeners.

Domestically, an agency known as the American Translators Association provides accreditation services for Spanish certified translators in several languages.  Unfortunately, accreditation from the ATA is not required by US law in order to become a professional translator.  The ATA does require that individuals sign up for a membership in order to become certified, but the membership provides a mutual benefit in that members obtain certification and potential employers are assured of the quality of the translation that they will receive from an individual.
